W.B Daw & Son is a family farming business based in the West Midlands farming combinable crops and potatoes as well as operating beef, sheep, pig and biomass enterprises. The business operates from 2 main sites and farms 4,000acres across Staffordshire. The arable enterprise comprises of combinable crops: winter wheat, oilseed rape, barley, beans and winter oats are all grown annually and stored over 2 sites. The farm’s main crop is potatoes, growing around 600 acres annually, supplying McCains, McDonalds and a local crisp producer.
The farm uses modern machinery, farming techniques and management practices. John Deere and Fendt tractors form the main machinery fleet ranging in size from 160hp to 550hp, Grimme, Simba, Väderstad and Agrifac equipment are also used.
Due to current staff changing roles within the business an opportunity has arisen for a new full time cultivations operator and general farm worker.
The Role
· Primary operator of a John Deere 8370R wheeled tractor performing cultivations before the drilling and potato planting teams, 1000-1200 tractor hours per year
· Machinery maintenance and servicing
· General yard/farm work as appropriate, helping the wider farm team operate
· Irrigation during summer months
· General tractor driving duties when not cultivating e.g carting
The Person
· Have experience with cultivations and John Deere tractors
· Practical mechanical skills such as changing bearings, welding, stripping down machinery
· Take pride in their work and operate to high standards
· Work well on their own but also as part of a team of 3-4 people on cultivations and drilling
· Look after machinery and tractors exceptionally well
